Chapter History
The history of the Alpha Pi chapter of the Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity begins in 1905 when a group of students created the Aurorean Literary Society and began meeting in Williams Hall. Immediately after the University began allowing national fraternities, these young men petitioned Delta Sigma Phi and on January 23, 1923 received their charter.
National History
Over 100 years ago, a group of distinguished men at the City College of New York saw the need for a new brotherhood whose values embodied those of the new century. Founded in 1899 on the principle of brotherhood for all, regardless of race or religious affiliation, Delta Sigma Phi has led the charge of fraternities nationwide to make good men better, and has established itself as the premier young men’s organization in the country.
The Alpha Pi (MSU) Chapter of Delta Sigma Phi has resided at 1218 E Grand River since the Chapter House's construction in 1927. Built out of beautiful fieldstone, with granite cornices and two stone chimneys at opposite ends of the building, giving it a look of grandeur, the Chapter House remains one of East Lansing's more prominent spots of beauty. The property boasts, in addition to the House itself, a large front lawn capable of holding Brotherhood field events, a full-size sand volleyball pit, a half-sized basketball court, and two docks overlooking the Red Cedar River. Put simply, there exists no property in East Lansing for students or permanent residents which comes close to matching what the Alpha Pi (MSU) Chapter of Delta Sigma Phi chapter property has to offer. Contact a Rush Chair to see how you can see it first-hand for a social event or for field events or simply to drop by and sample the magnificence.
